Manipur HC gets first woman CJ

IMPHAL, 9th Feb: 
Judge of High Court of Gujarat Abhilasha Kumari was sworn in as the Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur on Friday. Governor Dr Najma Heptulla administered the oath of office and secrecy to Abhilasha Kumari during a ceremony held at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, here.

With this, Abhilasha Kumari has become first woman Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur.

She was appointed as the Chief Justice of High Court of Manipur by the President of India on February 6. Justice Abhilasha is a native of Himachal Pradesh. After graduating from Delhi University, she obtained a law degree from Himachal Pradesh University. She joined the Bar in 1984 and practiced in High Court of Himachal Pradesh before attending High Court of Gujarat.

The swearing–in-ceremony was also attended by Abhilasha Kumari's father Virbhadra Singh, former chief minister of Himachal Pradesh.

Others who were present at the ceremony included Chief Minister N Biren Singh, deputy CM Y Joykumar, Speaker Y Khemchand, Deputy Speaker K Robindro, council of ministers, MLA and opposition leader Okram Ibobi Singh, former CM Radhabinod Koijam, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police and senior civil and security officials and Bar members.
