ESU, Alakhpura FC to lock horns in Indian Women’s League semis

IMPHAL, 9th FEB: The semifinal line-up of the inaugural Indian Women’s League 2017 will see Rising Students Club, Odisha take on FC Pune City, while Eastern Sporting Union, Manipur lock horns with Alakhpura FC, Haryana on Saturday.

           Eastern Sporting Union (ESU) and Rising Students Club (RSC) both garnered 12 points from five games but the latter topped the final league table on superior goal difference. The state football club had an impressive winning record through the league stage with just a loss from their five matches to secure the second spot of the table.

         ESU started their campaign with a rousing 7-1 win over JIT FC, Puducherry. But they faltered in their second match after being beaten 2-1 by Rising Students Club in a tight contest. ESU got back to their winning way in their third match, beating FC Pune City 3-1 before the state club handed out a 3-0 thrashing to Aizawl FC.

        Then they wrapped up the league round with a 1-0 success against Alakhpura FC whom they will clash for a final spot on Saturday. Alakhpura FC had two wins, a draw and a loss over the course of the league stage to occupy the third place. They beat Aizawl FC 6-0 in their first match, registered a slender 1-0 win over RSC, played out a 1-1 tie with JIT FC, and lost out to ESU (1-0) in their last match of the league round.

          On Saturday (February 11), RSC and FC Pune City will take the field first at 11:00 am as ESU and Alakhpura FC clash later at 3:00 pm.
