IMPHAL, 3rd June: Luwang Thang-Ta Academy (LTTA), Khurai Kongpal emerged overall team champions of the 13th Imphal East District Thang-Ta Competition as the two-day event for sub-junior, junior and senior boys and girls, and men and women concluded on Sunday at Khurai Kongpal Sajor Leikai Community Hall.
LTTA grabbed a total of 31 medals including 19 gold to clinch the championship title. Incidentally, they fielded the largest number of athletes in the competition consisting of 28 male and 25 female participants representing the team. Apart from their gold medals, LTTA added six each of silver and bronze to their tally. The LTTA players secured 125 points courtesy of their 31 medals.
Kangleipak Thang-Ta Cultural Academy, Lairikyengbam Leikai finished runners-up with eight gold, one silver and one bronze, while Eastern Kala Vidya Thang-Ta Association, Nongmeibung came in third place after claiming three gold, two silver and one bronze over the course of the event.
Altogether 145 participants from nine teams took part in the competition.
RK Somorendro (Kaiku), N Noren Luwang, president Imphal East District Thang-Ta Association, H Premkumar Singh, president World Thang-Ta Federation, A Gokul, actor/social worker, W Rojit, social worker, and S Sanathoi Meetei attended the closing ceremony as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
