Knockout round wraps up as TYO, HSC seal QF spots

CHURACHANDPUR, 7th June: Leading goal-scorer Chaoba hit a double as Tuiring Youth Organisation cruised into the quarterfinals with a 5-1 drubbing of FC Zomi Colony, while Headquarter SC ended Anpak FC’s dream campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory and claimed the remaining spot in the last eight.
The Thursday’s matches wrapped up the knockout round of Raja Goukhothang Guite Football Memoriam 2018 being held at Lamka Public Ground, Churachandpur.
Tuiring Youth Organization went into action mode from the word go and went ahead of FC Zomi Colony when Krishnananda (8) struck in the opener after 12 minutes.
And 10 minutes later, Chaoba (5) doubled the advantage and then Jessie(7) stepped up to give Tuiring a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime with a 31st-minute strike as Zomi Colony lacked some touches of brilliance upfront during the first period.
After the interval, FC Zomi went on the offensive with the introduction of Kamkhanlal (24), adding new dimension to their attack. They created a number of scoring opportunities but lack of finishing in front of the goal cost them.
However, their relentless efforts upfront were finally rewarded when Lunneu converted in the 70th minute to cut the deficit. However, that invited immediate response from Tuiring as Rohit(12) restored his side’s three-goal cushion with a simple tap-in and a late penalty from Chaoba (5) completed the 5-1 rout of their rivals, booking their place in the last eight with relative ease.
Headquarters SC wrapped up the knockout round with a goal in both halves against Anpak FC
Both sides fielded young lineups with huge potential. The match began with Headquarters SC showing more attacking intent, and in a matter of three minutes from kickoff they took the lead through Peter (7), who fired home their first goal with a well-executed left-foot volley.
In the second half, Anpak FC fought hard but they squandered a couple of chances in the process and any hope of their comeback was dashed when substitute Wahaz (15) extended his team’s lead in the 76th minute and ultimately closed out the game.
SYMROPIA FC and Lamka SC will lock horns in the first quarterfinal on Saturday (June 9) at 2:00 pm followed by New Lamka YC and United Chikim Federation on June 11, with Lenlai Club against Muvanlai Athletics on June 12 and Tuiring YO against Headquarter SC on June 13.
