MUTA sit-in, MUSU stir grip MU

IMPHAL, 11th June: Stressing that the vice-chancellor should take initiative for resolving the ongoing crisis in Manipur University, members of Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) staged sit-in-protest at the varsity bus stand Monday while Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) burnt an effigy of VC professor Adya Prasad Pandey as part of the union’s ongoing stir.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, MUTA president Ng Nimai alleged that vice chancellor Prof Pandey has been remaining silent even as the 10-day long agitation by MUSU has been severely paralysing functioning of the varsity including A-block and other departments. Alleging that the incumbent VC has failed to dispense his duty sincerely, Nimai said that professor Pandey should give his response to the charges levelled against him by MUSU while maintaining that MUTA’s voice is for restoration of normal academic atmosphere in the varsity. He cautioned that MUTA would launch intense forms of agitation on its own if the VC remains adamant and fails to bring an amicable solution to the ongoing crisis at the earliest.
Meanwhile as part of its ongoing stir, MUSU volunteers burnt effigy of professor Adya Prasad Pandey and raised ‘Go back VC’ slogans.
