Reopen MU by Aug 6, demands ATSUM
IMPHAL,4th Aug: All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) general secretary Seiboi Haokip has cautioned that the tribal students will launch intense agitation, if Manipur University is not reopened by August 6.
Speaking to media persons at the Union’s office located at Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Chingmeirong here Saturday, Seiboi informed that a joint meeting was held between ATSUM, KSO and ANSAM concerning the prevailing issue at MU. MUSU, MUTA and MUSA had alleged VC AP Pandey of financial and administrative irregularities following which MU was shutdown from May 30, he recalled.
In view of the situation, a fact-finding committee was formed to look into the allegations and VC AP Pandey was given leave of 30 days on August 2, while Professor W Vishwanath was appointed as VC in-charge, he conveyed.
Therefore, during the investigation period of the fact-finding committee, both the central and state government must ensure that the door of the university is reopened by August 6, failing which the tribal students will launch various intense agitations, the general secretary affirmed.
