KIM calls shutdown on Aug 8 over FA
IMPHAL,6th Aug: Denouncing the attempt of the Government of India to finalise the Indo-Naga Framework Agreement before delivering justice with regard to the mass genocide of Kuki civilians committed by NSCN-IM in 1992, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has called a 24-hour statewide shutdown from 6 am of August 8. Announcing the decision at its Babupara office on Monday, KIM spokesman Shominthang Doungel recounted that NSCN-IM massacred over 900 Kuki civilians and burnt 360 villages rendering thousands homeless. Since then, Kuki community has been demanding the Centre to assist the victims in rehabilitation and provide justice
Unfortunately, the Centre has been ignoring the issue all along while showing step motherly treatment to the Kukis, he said. The government of India should not finalise the Framework Agreement before ensuring justice to Kukis and no political solutions in the state should be brought upon before defining the territorial identity and political rights of Kuki community, he said.
