Four held in drug bust; heroin siezed in Jiri
IMPHAL,31st Aug: Four members of the same family were arrested in a drug raid conducted by Imphal East District Police at Khergao Makha Leikai under the jurisdiction of Porompat PS on Friday. The arrested persons have been identified as Thoibi alias Nasima Moinam (45), wife of Burhanuddin; Rubani Ruya (26), wife of Md Abo Buya; Md Lakudur Buya (20); and Md Anand Buya (19), son of Thoibi Moinam. It may be mentioned that Burhanuddin, husband of Thoibi, is presently the acting ward member of Ward No 4 of Kshetrigao AC.
According to sources, under the supervision of Imphal East District SP K Meghachandra, a combined team of Porompat PS, Women PS and Reserved Line personnel led by Imphal East District police Additional SP (Ops) M Kumarjit, DSP (SDO) Thongkhochon Haokip, DSP (Ops) RK Charles, OC Narcotics Kh Devkumar and Commando OC Inspector Khogen conducted search operation at Khergao Makha Leikai Yumkhaibam Colony area around 4.30 am Friday.
In all 512 people, including 161 women were verified one by one. Seven women, same number of non-locals and 14 men without proper documents were detained and handed over to Porompat PS for further verification.
Meanwhile, the team recovered 150 WY tablets from the four accused. The tablets were found neatly packed in a polythene packet, measuring 8.5 cm in length and 5.5 cm in breadth and hidden under a flowerpot. Later, the four accused were handed over to Porompat PS for further legal course of action. Porompat PS has registered a case. While Thoibi, Rubani and Md Abo have been remanded into police custody, Anand has been released.
On the other-hand, our Jiribam correspondent informed that a team of district police led by ASI A Krishna Sharma and Narcotics Cell in-charge SI T Romen under the supervision of additional SP Heisnam Basulal nabbed a man and recovered 140gm of Heroin powder from his possession. The nabbed man has been identified as Md Abdul Kalam, 35 son of Abdul Khalik of Hojai, Assam.
Basulal told media persons that Md Abdul Kalam was found moving suspiciously near Babupara area and when checked by the police team, he was found carrying 10 soap cases of different colours inside a pouch. When checked further, each soap case was found to contain 14gm each of heroin powder totaling 140gm of the contraband drug, he said, adding that this has been the largest drug haul by the district police in recent time.
