JCILPS volunteers pull up 12 Muslims from Assam
IMPHAL,3rd, Sep: Amid tight security measures taken up by the state police under the strict instruction of chief minister N Biren to prevent illegal immigrants sneaking into the state in the wake of Assam’s NRC update, 12 non-local Muslims were rounded up by JCILPS volunteers from Jiri Parking.
Informing this to media persons at its office here on Monday, JCILPS media coordinator W Rabi said that the 12 non-local Muslims rounded up from Wahengbam Leikai Jiri parking were from Assam’s Dhubri district. They were found possessing Aadhaar and voter ID cards, which have been declared invalid after the NRC update by Assam government. They had also an edited copy of NRC showing names of two brothers, he said.
Expressing concern over continuous influx of non-locals, Rabi urged inter-state transporters to refrain from bringing in non-locals without checking their credentials. The government should also issue ID cards to non-local labourers to avert misunderstanding, he stressed while stating that JCILPS would continue to check non-local labourers and salesmen for such ID cards.
Recalling the incident of some non-locals looting a pharmacy at RIMS road some months back and which the police have not been able to make any headway in the case, he said that such incidents will only increase if influx of non-locals is not checked.
