BJP recalls NH blockade woes to choke Cong charges
IMPHAL,11th Sep: Slamming the Congress party for calling the nationwide bandh on Monday, BJP Manipur Pradesh criticised the Congress party for forgetting the acute scarcity of fuel faced in the state due to highway blockade during its rule.
Addressing media persons at the party’s temporary office at Canchipur, BJP Manipur Pradesh general secretary (administration) K Saratkumar recalled that during the Congress rule, the state faced acute scarcity of fuel during which one could not buy petrol at Rs 100 per litre and LPG at Rs 2000. The over 100-day long blockade, which will remain in the history of the state, had impacted people severely and it resulted in the defeat of Congress party in the assembly election, he said.
Interestingly, Congress has forgotten those days and they are now staging bandh over fuel price hike, Saratkumar said. He also termed Monday’s nationwide bandh as the most ineffective bandh while adding that several people could be seen lining up in front of fuel outlets to buy petrol or diesel.
It is unfortunate for a party like Congress, which claims to be standing for non-violence, affecting the life of common people with the nationwide bandh. Top leaders of the party are the very few members who were seen staging protest rally during the bandh while almost all of the party’s workers and members stayed out of the protest, he claimed.
On the other hand, BJP spokesperson Ch Chidananda called Congress as a party which could not take any constructive role. During UPA rule, the average annual hike of petrol price was recorded at Rs 3.80. Whereas, under the NDA rule, the annual average price hike is only 70 paisa.
The present fluctuation and hike in petroleum products are affected by international factors and NDA government is not responsible for the situation, he claimed. Moreover, the NDA government cleared Rs 1.3 lakh crore amount of security bond to oil companies, which were kept pending during the UPA rule, he said and added that the Modi government has been formulating policies that will remain effective for long period.
He also slammed Congress for affecting normal life and works of common people by staging the nationwide bandh.
