Congress MLA takes charge over GTV camp
IMPHAL,11th Sep: In an unprecedented turn of event, members and workers of BJP Mandal Thangmeiband were left without much choice but to stay out of a GTV camp when local MLA Khumukcham Joykisan came and took charge of the camp while stating that GTV camp is a government mission and not of BJP.
The GTV mission camp held at Nonggangleima community hall near PHLYO club at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai was planned as per an order of the state government. BJP Thangmeiband Mandal president RK Lokendrajit and other party workers were gearing up for the programme when the Congress MLA came and took charge of the function.
Several key members of BJP were planning to attend the programme. However, they did not come there after the new development. MLA Joykisan slammed the BJP government for taking advantage of the mission to garner public support by organising the mission camps through the party’s units without even consulting the local MLA. Terming the nature of the programme as unconstitutional, the MLA inaugurated the camp as chief guest.
Additional chief secretary Dr Suhel Akhtar and SDOs & SDCs of Lamphel sub-division also attended the camp, during which the chief guest distributed CMHT cards, study materials, agricultural inputs and other benefits to the public.
MLA Joykisan told The People’s Chronicle that he got information of a notice issued by DC Imphal West Naorem Praveen on September 7 regarding the GTV camp there. Upon receiving information, he enquired about the camp with the officials of Imphal West district administration. Interestingly, a letter dated September 10 addressed to him was brought by SDO and SDC concerned on Tuesday morning, he informed. The MLA accused the government of misusing power and using government machineries in favour of BJP. He also demanded the government to put an immediate halt to such power misuse.
