NIA begins probe into arms seizure case

IMPHAL,5th Oct: NIA has taken up investigation of the case into seizure of illegal arms cache at Mantripukhri after registering a case at its Guwahati office on Thursday on the basis of original case of Heingang PS FIR No 80(5)2018 dated 22/05/2018.

On May 22, following information regarding concealment of huge quantity of arms and ammunition in a particular house at Mantripukhri Lamlongei area, a search was conducted by Manipur Police and one suspect namely Valley Chithung, wife of Honpam Chithung was detained. At her disclosure, the police team recovered four gelatine rods, four cordite wires, 13 detonators, one AK-47 magazine, two 9 mm magazines, 29 AK series ammunition, Myanmar and foreign (Philippines) currencies.

Valley's husband namely Honpam Chithung was arrested by Ukhrul Police on the same day along with a huge quantity of arms and ammunition. The accused disclosed before Ukhrul Police that a cache of arms and ammunition was stored at his rented house at Mantripukhri. Accordingly, the recovery of the illegal articles was made and the case was registered at Heingang PS.
