Post NRC exodus worries JCILPS
BPR, 8th oct: Under the stated objective of checking unrestrained influx of outsiders, Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has opened a new unit at Torbung under Kumbi assembly constituency in Bishnupur district on Monday. JCILPS convener Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, co-conveners Jeetendra Ningomba, YK Dhiren & Brojendro Naorem, executive member W Rabi and JCILPS women’s wing co-convener Memcha Leima attended the unit launching function as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dilipkumar informed that it is the third unit of the committee after Sekmai and Kanglatongbi. The Torbung unit will cover areas from Moirang to Churachandpur, he said. A bill similar to ILPS was passed by the state assembly following a consensus among the different communities of both hills and valley. On the other hand, publication of the NRC list by Assam government has displaced more than 40 lakh illegal immigrants and these immigrants are trying to enter the neighbouring states of Assam. Even though the government is extra vigilant in the areas bordering Assam, general public need to remain alert to prevent those immigrants from entering Manipur, he maintained.
The units of JCILPS are being opened to check such immigrants and migrants so as to prevent dilution of the indigenous communities of the state, he said while urging all to inform JCILPS if they come across such non-locals. The meeting elected Kh Rajesh, Md Ajad Khan, Ch Narendra and Md Gayum respectively as convener, co-convener, secretary IPR and secretary organisation of the unit.
