Posers raised over Prof Yugindro’s mental status
IMPHAL, 11th Oct 2018: It is really shameful that Manipur University vice-chancellor in- charge Prof K Yugindro has expressed low opinion about Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla and even dared to feed her false information with regard to the Manipur University issue, expressed award winning film maker and senior citizen Aribam Syam Sharma. He also posed: How can a person who is not in his normal state of mind hold the position of VC of MU? If a VC who is not mentally stable takes decision based on his whims, what will be the fate of the varsity? .
Addressing a press conference at his Thangmeiband Lourungpurel Leikai residence on Wednesday, Syam Sharma said that he cannot remain silent anymore on the MU issue.
Never before in the history of Manipur, have teachers and students been arrested, he noted, while adding that it is the tradition of the state to respect teachers.
Regrettably, university teachers have been arrested without any concrete reasons, Syam said and further questioned: How the people of Manipur can remain as mute spectator in such a condition?
Syam Sharma said he rejoiced when the MU imbroglio was somewhat settled when an agreement was arrived at between the MU community and the Ministry of HRD as the agreement raised hope that students can now appear for examinations. However, after the appointment of a new VC in charge, the midnight raid on September 20, arrest of teachers and students, and suspension of some teachers the issue got aggravated and MU remained in turmoil up to now, no sane person would feel elated. In such a grave situation, both the government and the public have an important role to play, he remarked.
Syam Sharma described as very disgraceful on the part of Prof K Yugindro to have made disparaging remarks against the Governor and mislead her on the ground situation at MU only to be followed by tendering an apology that he was not mentally stable at that time.
“A university’s VC should never make such statements. If a person is not mentally sound, how can he perform his duties? What will be the future of the university and its students? His behaviour has made me ashamed as a citizen of Manipur,” the internationally renowned film maker said.
He cautioned that the situation might get out of hands if the arrested teachers and students are not released.
As government forces arrested them there must be ways through which they could be released, he reasoned and iterated that senior citizens will not longer remain as muted spectators when future of Manipuri youths is at stake.
