MUSU sticks to demand for unconditional release of all

STAFF REPORTER
IMPHAL, 11th Oct: Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) president Mayanglambam Dayaman has reiterated the demands for immediate release of the arrested students and teachers without any condition, withdrawal of FIR and security forces from the campus so as to restore normalcy in the varsity.
Addressing a press conference held at MU campus Thursday, Dayaman said that the state government has failed to translate into action their demands for immediate release of the arrested members of the MU community and withdrawal of the FIR along and removal of security forces from the campus till date.
In addition, in a statement recently issued by the secretary to the Governor of Manipur, it was stated that the FIR was lodged on the basis of false information. As such, MUSU will not retreat from its stand until the state government fulfills their demands, he contended.
He informed that an MU student had already filed a complaint for lodging of a counter FIR against the previous FIR.

Dayaman maintained that many more students might file more such complaints for registration of counter FIRs. Thus, the state government must initiate steps for withdrawal of the said FIR, or else the government would be solely held responsible for any unwanted incidents that may occur.
With regard to Wednesday’s incident, the president said that the students were launching protest in a democratic manner when they were arrested by the police. Later, more security forces were deployed at the campus. Furthermore, there were reports of setting fire at the university by unknown persons to project MU community in poor light. In case any such incidents recur in the campus despite heavy deployment of security forces, then the state government and the forces would be held responsible, he said.
Stating that MUSU would be extending cooperation to the enquiry committee against Professor AP Pandey that was earlier withdrawn owing to some circumstances, Dayaman expressed belief that the committee would be able to bring to light the many wrongdoings committed by Professor Pandey.
