Prof Yugindro sets rider to scrap FIR
IMPHAL, 15TH Oct: In the efforts to bring normalcy in Manipur University and to release all the arrested students and teachers, the Manipur University community held talk with professor Yugindro on Monday but the latter assured to withdraw FIR on certain conditions.
The talk at the chamber of Advocate General located at secretariat north block was held in presence of High Court appointed MU administrator IAS (Retd) Jarnail Singh.
In presence of the AG and administrator, professor Yugindro reportedly assured to withdraw the FIR he filed against the students and teachers provided no counter-FIR is filed against him and all stakeholders work collectively to restore normalcy in Manipur University.
Manipur University Student’s Union (MUSU) president Mayanglambam Dayaman told media persons that Jarnail Singh first met chief minister N Biren on Monday to bring a solution to the protracted impasse at Manipur University.
After his meeting with the CM, Jarnail Singh met professor Yugindro and representatives of MUSU, MUTA and MUSA at AG’s chamber.
During the meeting, MU community and professor Yugindro reached an understanding that the professor will withdraw FIR to release all the arrested students and teachers without any condition if the arrested students and teachers make a commitment that no legal complaint would be filed against the complainant (professor Yugindro) when they are released, and to work collectively on restoring normalcy in the varsity.
Apart from making this assurance in presence of AG, administrator and Imphal West SP, professor Yugindro insisted on signing an undertaking that those languishing in jail will not file counter FIR when they come out of the jail. Accordingly, MU community met students and teachers currently lodged at Sajiwa jail but they declined to sign the undertaking at individual level and asked MU community to settle the matter, Dayaman said adding that release of arrested student and teachers will depend on signing of the undertaking between professor Yugindro and MU community comprising MUSU, MUTA and MUSA even if no such agreement is signed between the professor and those languishing in jail.
Dayaman also said that students and teachers to be released without any condition should also include all those arrested in connection with MU issue including those arrested for staging egg protest and torching of an auto rickshaw.
Meanwhile, professor Yugindro informed media persons that he had agreed to withdraw FIR to bring normalcy in MU and process for release of arrested students and teachers had already begun.
According to professor Yugindro, he has no objection to withdrawing the FIR but an undertaking will be signed with all those in jail that they will not file any legal complaint against him when released.
Professor Yugindro also said that normalcy at MU will return soon and suspension orders he had issued during his tenure as VC in-charge have been revoked by the administrator.
Leaders of AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK and AIMS also met chief minister N Biren at his office Monday. Education minister and chief secretary too were present in the meeting.
Anticipating release of arrested students and teachers, many students searched for garlands till late Monday evening.
