Biren urges Catholic society to be missionary of change
IMPHAL,16th Oct: Chief Minister N Biren has called upon Catholic priests and nuns to contribute their might in ushering in a new era of camaraderie, peace and development in the state. Speaking as chief guest during inauguration of the 6th All Manipur Catholic Schools Biennial Games and Sports Meet, 2018 at Catholic School, Canchipur on Tuesday, Biren lauded the service rendered to the society by Catholic Educational Society, Manipur (CESM).
He said that CESM follows a distinctive educational philosophy and methodology which employ reason, love, kindness and religion as instruments of teaching. Political communities and Churches are autonomous and independent of each other in their own fields. Nevertheless, both are devoted to the personal vocation of man, he added.
There can be no education without dedication, the CM said while adding that it is this dedication which would bring success and happiness to the student community. It is also this dedication and sacrifice, which would condition the children for imbibing a culture of hard work, honesty and perseverance, he added. “Remember, you are no more a missionary unless you bring change,” Biren said.
He further said that his government is investing to train the young citizens to become responsible human beings. He then urged CESM to walk the extra mile to ensure that every child gets their due attention while urging the society to teach children to appreciate the dignity of labour, love of history, culture and traditions, and respect for the elderly.
Maintaining that he believes in the power of priests and nuns as agents of change in Manipur, the CM said that priests and nuns are generous group of people who are willing to work hard and sacrifice for the present and future generations. He also informed that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the state government and the six agitating student bodies on Tuesday for releasing the arrested students and teachers, and as such normalcy will return in Manipur University soon.
