MPP to field candidates in Lok Sabha polls
IMPHAL, 26th Oct: Manipur People’s Party (MPP) president Oinam Jugindro has stated that the party would field candidate in the coming Lok Sabha elections in both the Inner and Outer Manipur constituencies. Speaking at the reception function of newly enrolled MPP members, Jugindro conveyed that since MPP was formed as a regional party in 1968 it has been serving the people. For the first time, an MPP led government was formed in 1972 but it lasted for only 11 months due to imposition of President’s Rule. The party returned to power in 1974 as well and again in 1990 under the leadership of RK Ranbir. Mainly due to defection and abandonment by MLAs, MPP started experiencing its downfall since 1990. Even though the party currently has no MLA, it cannot remain silent when people are suffering under the current BJP regime and hence decided to field candidates in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he added. Jugindro also said that more people from minority Meitei Pangal community are joining MPP as they now have no faith in Congress and BJP. The reception function was organised for former MNDF chairman Md Azizur of Kshetrigao and former MNDF general secretary Seikh Mafizuddin. Earlier, NEIDP minority cell chairman Seikh Kheiruddin had also joined the party. MPP general secretary (administration) Haobijam Geetchandra also said that MPP decided to candidates in both Inner and Outer Manipur constituencies in the coming Lok Sabha elections but names of candidates would be declared later.
