Cong has highest number of graft cases: BJP
IMPHAL, 29th Oct: BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson Ch Bijoy has contended that Congress party has the highest number of corruption cases under investigated by CBI in the context of Manipur.
Addressing a press conference at its temporary office in Canchipur here on Monday, Bijoy said that Congress cannot deny the fact that it has the highest number of corruption cases being investigated by CBI.
Instead of taking the role of opposition, the party both at the Centre and in the state has been cocooning a swarm of germs in CBI. It came to light after the recent spat between CBI director Alok Verma and assistant director Rakesh Asthana. Due to infection of the germs of Congress, CBI had been ineffective in investigating the corruption cases but the recent development in the probe agency has put Congress in deep trouble, he added.
The CBI director was simply sent on leave. With the latest development, a new face of transparency and effectiveness will be seen in the agency, he said while hoping that public will see the real power and action of CBI now.
As for the state, several cases transferred to CBI are still kept pending. The case of killing of Sanjit and Rabina is among them. On several instances, the CBI lawyer often failed to show up in the court resulting in delaying the process and it looks like CBI is deliberately stalling the case. Another case of a major drug haul from a police commando posted in Kakching has also remained silent. Besides, CBI is not accepting the LDA scam, which involved the ex-CM and three former chief secretaries. Other cases like Pallel and Airport drug haul incidents also share the same fate till date. In fact, a justice of the Supreme Court of India had remarked that CBI has become like a parrot in cage, he noted.
Under such situations, the protest of Congress over the action against CBI director is not in the interest of the public but for saving their own skin. The new director is a man of integrity and with great intelligence. In fact Congress fears that the new director will expose their corrupt activities which is why the party is protesting the move, he contended.
