Ex-MLA cautions against special status to single community
IMPHAL, 30th Oct: Former MLA of Keishamthong assembly constituency Laishom Ibomcha cautioned that any policy to provide special status to a single community will spark a major unrest in the state. Ibomcha also declared that he will participate in the unity rally to be organised by UCM on Wednesday.
Addressing media persons at his at Keishamthong Laishom Leirak residence here on Tuesday, Ibomcha said that no MP of Manipur in both houses of parliament moved motion for discussing the 123rd report on Security Situation in the North East when it was tabled by the standing committee on home affairs in both Houses. As such, the report shall be adopted as per parliamentary proceeding rules.
However, the report could be reopened for discussion after taking approval of the chairman of the House, he explained.
Any member of the parliament except those members of the standing committee can move the House. The home ministry should be informed that the para 3.1.5 and 3.4.7 of the report cannot be implemented in the state while demanding an agreement for granting special status to Manipur, he said.
At the same time, the state assembly could adopt a resolution to review the decision for extension of the 6th Schedule. The state government should also ensure necessary power to the ADCs to allow proper functioning, he contended.
