Govt urged to save historic Heibok hill
IMPHAL, 11th Nov: Taking serious note over the rampant destruction caused to Heibok hill, which has historical importance apart from being a reserve forest area, NPP state secretary general Khuraijam Loken has drawn attention of the government to look into the matter and put an immediate end to the illegal activities to save the hilllock.
Addressing media persons at Mantripukhri on Sunday, Loken said that some individuals are quarrying soil from the hilllock in Takhellambam Konjil area on the eastern side of Hiyangthang daily and piling up the soil at Thiyam Thambalnu in Wangoi without any apparent reason. Maintaining that the piled up soil are remaining there without any immediate use, he appealed to the authority concerned of the government to visit the spot and conduct an enquiry. He also appealed to the individuals concerned to clarify the reason for piling up the soil.
Stating that the hillock is a reserve forest area and there is court order against soil quarrying there, he expressed possibilities of some individuals with government’s support carrying out the illegal activities. Unless the government takes up immediate measures to stop these activities, the BJP government will lose its credibility, he said.
Even if NPP is part of the present government in the state, the party will not remain silent against such violation of rules and exploitation of public properties, he added.
