Day 2: Nine matches decided in State Subroto football tourney

IMPHAL, 7th July: Nine matches were decided on the second day of the U-14 & U-17 boys State Inter School Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament underway at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
In Sunday’s U-14 boys competition, Chandel, Imphal East and Ukhrul prevailed in contrasting styles as Thoubal and Tengnoupal ended their match in a goalless draw.
Chandel handed out a 7-0 thrashing to Kamjong as Retuwn Welldam scored a double coupled with a goal each from Bungwardon Sungnem, BD Chongdon Anal, Kopeingam Tonsin and W Dimber. An own goal was part of their seven-goal haul.
Imphal East came from behind to overcome Kangpokpi 3-2. Lungouthang put Kangpokpi ahead in the 14th minute and Thangkhanlen doubled their advantage in the 18th minute before Imphal East fought back and earned the victory through Indranath (27th), Malemnganba (47th) and Nelson Sapam (50+1).
Thoubal and Tengnoupal settled for a point each in their 0-0 stalemate.
Ukhrul, meanwhile, registered a 3-1 win over Pherzawl. Yuimi Kamkara, Leiyapam Tallanao and Samswi AK were the scorers for the winning side, while Hosia claimed the lone goal for his team.
The day’s U-17 boys action saw Senapati, Churachandpur and Kakching triumph as two other games ended in draws.
Senapati produced an 11-0 rout of Tamenglong as Thangkhanlen led the scoring with four goals followed by Putoukho Samuel and Veisalou who both grabbed two goal, with N Soudon, Shayam and Daili also getting their names on the scoresheet.
Churachandpur also enjoyed an easy day with a 7-0 hammering of Kamjong. John Kamsuanmang claimed four goals, Lalsiem scored a double and Kamsanglen contributed one in their strong showing on Sunday.
