Warplane ferries in diesel
IMPHAL, 22nd JAN: A day after the inter-ministerial meeting held at the national capital reviewed the supply of essential commodities in economic blockade hit Manipur, Indian Air Force’s newly inducted transport aircraft, C-17 Globemaster, carried out two sorties on Sunday to bring in transport fuel.
The massive air-craft, usually used for military purposes or in emergency situation, made its maiden trip to Tulihal airport at around 5 pm. It brought two diesel-loaded tankers. Though the aircraft has in-built capacity to carry two fully loaded oil tankers, Sunday’s load was about 10 per cent less than the full capacity.
It may be mentioned that the inter-ministerial meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union home minister Rajnath Singh and was also attended by petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan. There has been serious shortage of essential commodities, particularly petroleum products and medicines due to the on-going economic blockade imposed by UNC on the two lifelines of Manipur since November 1 last year.
