Assam Rifles organises Hunters’ Conclave

CHRONICLE BUREAU IMPHAL, 12th Oct: 4 Assam Regiment of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised ‘Hunters Conclave’, an interactive forum to establish dialogue with hunters in all Company Operating Bases in order to address security related concerns of the locals in the operationally sensitive Indo-Myanmar Border region of Chandel District on October 11.

Located in the remotest corner of Chandel district, locals in the unit area of responsibility depend primarily on hunting to meet their financial needs and food. However, the presence of multiple numbers of hunters in the vicinity along with likely presence of Assam Rifles troops operating in the area could prove to be a dangerous and risky proposition to the hunters. Moreover improper handling of firearms by locals could lead to unfavourable incidents. Keeping all these in view, the forward Company Operating Bases invited the local hunters and discussed the importance of maintaining high state of alertness and prior know how to security forces regarding movement of hunters with firearms so as to avoid any incident of mistaken identity, conveyed a statement of IGAR (South).

The conclave witnessed considerable participation of the local hunters. This occasion provided an opportunity to the unit to enhance interaction with locals and keep an eye on the state of possession of firearms by locals. The hunters also expressed their gratitude on being invited and pledged their full cooperation in future, added the statement.
