CSOs to track UBI assurance of flawless service

R LESTER MAKANG UKHRUL, 4th Nov: Although the state authority of United Bank of India (UBI) assured public of uninterrupted service of its Ukhrul branch office effectively from Tuesday, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of the district said that they are determined to track the course of action taken up by the bank authority to see if the assurance is fulfilled by the stipulated date.

Talking to The People's Chronicle over the phone on Saturday, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) general secretary Varenam Gachuiwoshi conveyed that assistant general manager of UBI, Manipur Raghunandan Samanta has assured the CSOs that the current banking deficiencies would be addressed at the earliest and that the branch office at Viewland would be made fully functional by November 7 during his meeting with the public leaders of the district on Saturday in Ukhrul town.

Samanta also handed over to TNL president Weapon Zimik a written assurance on the matter, he informed.

According to the UBI state official, installation of VSAT for uninterrupted Internet connectivity to the branch office which begun Saturday would be completed by Monday evening and that its functioning would be brought into full swing in the interest of the public by Tuesday, Gachuiwoshi said.

"We have received this official assurance from the AGM of UBI as we demanded to discuss the matter only with the bank's higher authority and the response has been positive so far," Gachuiwoshi continued and went on to say that "Nevertheless, we are firm on tracking any steps initiated by them, before we decide to unlock the branch office."

“We will inspect the progress of the ongoing works of VSAT installation on Monday so as to ensure that the bank fulfils its promises," he said, adding that if the progress is satisfactory, then the lock and seal would be removed by Monday.

It may be mentioned that CSOs had locked down the branch office on Friday demanding a permanent solution to the persisting banking problems at the UBI branch which is the oldest banking institution in the district.
