Minister cautions rogue teachers, exhorts students
STAFF REPORTER/DIPR IMPHAL, 8th Nov: Asking teachers to uphold sanctity of their noble profession and dispense their duty diligently, education minister Thokchom Radheshyam Singh said that it would be wishful thinking to live under the impression that the new government will be lenient towards recalcitrant teachers.
Minister Radheshyam, who along with works minister Th Biswajit, attended the annual freshers’ meet cum Literacy & Cultural Meet, 2017-18 of Tamphasana Girls’ Higher Secondary School on Wednesday, cautioned that the government will initiate punitive action in case teachers are found to be neglecting their duty to serve and guide the future pillars of the society.
In his address as the functional president, the education minister, while noting role of the students in shaping their own future and the society, emphasised that the students too need to contribute their mite in making Manipur a progressive society.
Further stating that on account of the youthful energy and talents of the students, parents as well as public have high hope that they will bring positive changes to the state, he also described the freshers’ meet as an occasion and opportunity for sharing ideas among the seniors and newly enrolled students.
With the ideas and energy of the new and the experienced, TG can do much better, Radheshyam said, while conveying that education is a means to promote unity and bridge all differences and facilitate holistic approach to lead a meaningful life.
Present day students are far ahead of the older generation in terms of knowledge, skill and talents and as such there is need to accord top priority towards channelizing talents and skills towards positivity with the teachers acting as guides, he maintained.
Minister Radhesyham, while elaborating on moral, values and principle, also assured to address all requirements of the school, complete construction of the school hostel building at the earliest and initiate construction of smart classroom and auditorium for hosting functions with convenience.
Though the minister conveyed appreciation to the teachers for their contributions towards the society, he lamented that there are few teachers who lack moral and are dishonest in their profession.
Citing few instances of some teachers found simultaneously working at two institutions and withdrawing both salaries, minister Radheshyam cautioned that strict actions would be taken up against such teachers in case they do not mend their ways.
Speaking as the chief guest, works minister Biswajit mentioned that present is the most important time and ‘we have to create our future today’.
“We can succeed only if we are hard-working and have patience. If the foundation is strong, the building is strong,” he added.
Minister Biswajit also spoke on the importance of education said that sustainable development is possible with education. Development, he explained, is possible only when illiteracy could be removed or eradicated.
He further assured to provide drinking water facility in the school. Other highlights of the function, which was also attended by Director of Education (S) Th Kirankumar Singh and TG higher secondary school principal L Biren Singh as presidium members, included cultural items presented by students and distribution of prizes to class toppers.
