Robot maker Cl XI student rewarded

STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 9th Nov: Thiyam Nandalal, a class XI student of Johnstone Higher Secondary School, got commendation and cash assistance of Rs 10,000 from education (S) director Th Kirankumar for making a robot.

The education director handed over the cash incentive to the student during a simple ceremony held at his office chamber at Lamphel. Later, Nandalal conducted a demonstration of his robot in his school in the afternoon.

Nandalal, who is the son of Thiyam Ishorchand and Thiyam (ongbi) Chaobi of Balaram Khul Maning Leikai, Nambol, is said to have been inspired by new innovative technologies shown on TV and internet. Since his childhood, he always wanted to make new and innovative products.

Nandalal informed that he began making the robot about a month ago without help from anybody and his robot will be completed soon.

He made the robot using parts of LED lamps, mobile phone battery, syringes, IV set, glass bottle and other easily available materials.

During his demonstration, Nandalal controlled the robot by his hand gestures after he attached some sensors on his hand. 

The robot lifted a disposable glass during the demonstration. Once completed, his robot would be able to lift and rearrange light objects.

School principal Sangeeta Ayekpam said that the innovative idea of Nandalal is the pride of the school. She also said that the school authority will provide financial assistance to enable him to complete the robot soon.
