‘Monthly stipend of Rs 1500 to PWDs from Dec 3’
STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 20th Nov: To alleviate some of the sufferings of differentially-able persons in the state, the state government has taken up an initiative to provide them a monthly stipend of Rs 1500 from December 3 onwards, Health & Family Welfare Parliamentary Secretary Subashchandra has informed.
He was speaking during the 8th Foundation Day celebration of All Manipur Handicapped Persons’ Welfare Association cum Mayengbam Aber Memorial Award distribution ceremony held at Manipur Press Club here on Monday.
Speaking as the chief guest, Subashchandra said that human life is unpredictable. No one knows when we will die, but we continue to differentiate amongst ourselves on the basis of status, wealth, physical appearances etc. Instead of that, we must try to contribute as much as possible to the development of the society, he stressed.
Pointing that the new govt came to power only 7 months ago, Subashchandra remarked that the govt has managed to accomplish many things which were deemed impossible during such a short period. The govt has rolled out a scheme to give a monthly stipend of Rs 1500 to the differentially-able persons from December 3 onwards and efforts are underway to formulate a new policy for them.
On the occasion, Mayengbam Aber Memorial award was presented to craftsman Th Birbam of Haobam Marak. All Manipur Handicapped Persons’ Welfare Association and All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union also gifted him a wheelchair.
