STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 25th Nov:
The 18th Manipur State conference of CPI (M) Manipur State Committee, which will go on for two days, was kicked off by Central Committee Member of CPI(M) Gautam Das at community multipurpose hall, Kakhulong here by hoisting the party flag on Saturday.
Delivering the key note address, Gautam remarked that just like world's wealthy nations becoming puppets of private corporations, the same is happening in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP government.
Asserting that the north east region has been facing financial and unemployment crisis since BJP took over power, he pointed out central sponsorship has been reduced to 60 per cent from the earlier 90 PC, aside from disbandment of all special funds.
Pointing out that the BJP government has not shown any signs of keeping the promises made in its election manifestoes, Gautam Das iterated that the government is only torturing its citizens.
Private sector employees have lost their jobs while poor farmers have been forced to commit suicide due to financial distress and unfavourable agricultural situation. The implementation of GST has led to more taxes, he said, adding that no country in the world levies 5 per cent to 28 per cent taxes on its people.
He contended that BJP government is the main reason behind the current economic crisis in the country, where capitalism overrides the welfare measures of the people. The public need to be alerted of this alarming situation and help form a new government that will work for the welfare of the people, he exhorted.
The conference was also attended by CPI (M) Manipur State Committee members N Thoiba and A Tombi. Floral tributes were also offered to the departed members of the party.
