WY tablets worth Rs15 lakh seized

During frisking and checking conducted to prevent untoward incidents during the ongoing Sangai Festival, a team of Imphal East district police arrested a man with WY tablets worth nearly Rs 15 lakh on Monday.

Briefing media persons regarding the drug haul, Imphal East SP Kabib K said that the district police have been taking up strict security measures to prevent any untoward incidents during Sangai Festival. At about 7.30pm Monday, a team of Narcotics Cell I/E led by OC Kh Devkumar Singh under supervision of additional SP Wungpam Kasar conducted frisking and checking at Andro Parking area. Amidst the frisking, a man holding a black colour polythene bag was seen moving suspiciously from Palace Gate side.

When checked, the polythene bag was found to contain 50 plastic sacks packed with 200 WY tablets each, Kabib informed, adding that market value of the seized 10,000 pieces of WY tablets would be around Rs 15 lakh.

The man nabbed with the contraband drug has been identified as Oinam Heramot Singh (55) son of late O Dhanendrajit Singh of Singjamei Oinam Thingel.

According to Kabib K, the district police have been working tirelessly against drugs and there had been huge achievement of recovering ST tablets worth more than Rs 50 lakh and around 1605 kg contraband Ganja which would be worth around Rs 1-2 crore. If people extend support and cooperate with police in the drive against drug, the state would have no drug users within two/three years, Kabib said and appealed to the people to extend support to police in the fight against drugs.
