Cong demands clarification over NPF leader’s statement
STAFF REPORTER IMPHAL, 2nd Dec:
Referring to statement by a leader of Naga People’s Front (NPF), who equated the party’s four MLAs to four wheels of a vehicle in the BJP government, Congress party has demanded that other allies of the BJP-led government clarify their stand over the matter.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan here Saturday in the presence of party MLAs and leaders, MPCC spokesperson MLA Kh Joykisan recalled that an NPF leader recently stated that the four MLAs of the party are the four wheels of a vehicle in the BJP government.
The claim shows how the government is rolling at the mercy of NPF MLAs, Joykisan contended.
The NPF leader also reaffirmed the ideology and manifesto of the party and to stand by it, Joykisan further pointed out, and demanded the coalition partners of the government to declare their stand at the earliest.
On the other hand, it is unfortunate for UNC to boycott Gaikhangam, who has been putting his efforts to bring together the people of hills and valley. However, Congress does not have any hard feelings over the action of UNC, he maintained.
Despite the armed attacks by UG groups and hostile stand of UNC, Congress won in nine seats in the hill areas and it itself is testimony of the failing grip of the UG groups in the hill areas. People know what UNC is and its series of actions have shown its inclination towards NSCN (IM). If they think for the welfare of the state, they should declare their stand over the Framework Agreement and possibilities of affecting the integrity of Manipur, the MLA demanded.
He also termed BJP, UNC and NSCN-IM as the three sides of a triangle. However, Congress will stand against any attempt to disintegrate the state, he added.
Claiming that BJP government reduced ST quota in the police constable recruitment result declared recently, he further questioned reason for silence of UNC in this regard.
Quoting the statement made by President Ram Nath Kovind during the inauguration of Hornbill Festival in Nagaland regarding solution of the Naga issue, Joykisan said that people of Manipur should demand disclosure of the contents of the Framework Agreement.
So far, BJP leaders have been giving assurance over the territorial integrity of the state. However, none of them give any assurance regarding the apprehension of bifurcation in administration, he added.
