TMNL burns seized expired goods worth over Rs 38,000

Continuing its drive against selling of expired goods, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL - Tangkhul Youth Council) on Thursday consigned to flame a large quantity of expired commodities worth around Rs 38,120 which were seized during a surprise check carried out in the main market areas of the town.
Talking to media persons, TMNL president LM Thanmi Shimray informed that the youth council received complaints from the public who said that many traders in different localities indulged in selling expired commodities to the customers. "We acted on the complaints and carried out the check immediately, as part our ongoing drive," he said.
"Huge quantity of contaminated goods worth around Rs 38,120 were seized from a total of 18 shops located in between Dungrei Junction and Viewland bazar areas," he informed, adding that during the checking some traders were caught selling the contaminated goods for the second time.
"All these traders were called to TMNL office and certain fines have been imposed on those repeated defaulters, while others have been strictly warned of stringent actions if found repeating the same unethical trade activities," he said.
The seized commodities included edible items like snacks, fruit juices, beverages, edible oils, and cosmetic products like hair oils, shampoos, lotions from varied brands, he said, while informing that the youth council will continue the drive in the main market areas in the coming days.
