Colourful festivities bring the curtain down on PBC events

R LESTER MAKANG UKHRUL, 4th Jan:
It was a colourful fusion of worship, music, fashion and sports with various competitive events that added to the festive zeal and spirit of Christmas and New Year celebrations at Phungyo Baptist Church (PBC) Ukhrul, the oldest Church of Manipur, which celebrated the festivals from December 24, 2017 to January 3, 2018.

Along with regular festive worship services to commemorate the birth of baby Christ Jesus (who came to the world to save the humanity from the clutches of sin) and to welcome the new year 2018, PBC organised a wide range of competitive events in the form of Phungyo Voice Hunt Season 5 (Solo singing competition), Bible Hunt (Bible Quiz and Bible Bee), and other competitive items like Fancy Dress, Tug-of-war, Christmas Hymn singing, Christmas Tree decoration, Choreography, Declamation and festive soccer tournament among others.

Talking to The People's Chronicle, Chingrimachut Zimik, secretary of PBC Christmas and New Year Committee, explained that most of these competitive events were organised with the main aim of promoting positive spiritual and social growth among the young people.

Speaking on the conduct of Voice Hunt, he conveyed that it is an initiative of PBC Christmas Committee, and added that the Church felt a great obligation towards positive development of the youth through singing of Christian music. "Our main motive behind organising this event is to identify musical talents in order to produce music professionals, so as to bring about its positive impact on the church and society," he added.
Yaimichon Kasomwoshi from Hunphun Baptist Church was adjudged the winner of Phungyo Voice Hunt Season 5 out of five finalists which included Thotsemphi Luithui, Somipam NS, Soyachon Kasomhung and Pamreiwon SW.

"Apart from cash prizes, certificates and mementos, these five finalists have the privilege to undergo further free music training at Echoes School of Music Tuning Arts, for four months," Zimik informed.

Also for the first time, PBC came up with a Free-Style Dancing and Throw-Ball competition, he said, adding that these are relatively new additions to the annual festivities of the church.

Generation Squad emerged as the overall winner of the free style dancing competition, while Tangrei women team won the throw ball competition.

Meanwhile, for the football tournament, Wino Tang walked away with the championship titles in all the three categories of senior, junior and sub junior, while Kasom Tang secured the second position in the three categories of the tournament.
