DIPR IMPHAL, 7th Jan:
Education minister Thokchom Radheshyam laid the foundation stones for construction of the main building of two higher secondary schools, namely Kakching Higher Secondary School, Kakching and Heirok Higher Secondary School, Heirok on Sunday.
On the occasion, the minister announced that the schools belong to the people and the said schools will be built with proper planning so that the school building fulfils the requisite criteria.
Th Radheshyam pointed out that in student’s life, the eleventh and twelfth class standard in the higher secondary school is the most crucial stage. Therefore, the minister emphasised on providing students with better infrastructure and environment.
He further announced that those Higher Secondary Schools which have a good students’ population and located at the main centres of the town or districts are being identified to start infrastructural developmental work under the Model School Scheme.
The hgher secondary schools of Langmeidong, Kakching, Heirok, Ukhrul, Moreh, Tengnoupal and Tamenglong would be developed as model schools in addition to the already existing eleven model schools.
Further the minister informed that some High Schools are also being listed for ‘facelift’ in the coming years. These schools will be renovated with flooring and tin sheets on regular basis so as the encourage healthy enrolment of students.
Radheshyam observed that school is the place where one could get all answers of the problems and issues prevailing in the society. Students are the pillars of the society and the place of their education should be taken great care with a sense of responsibility. The students need to be encouraged and make them feel attracted towards the school and education, which hold the key to their expectations, he added.
MLA Kakching A/C Y Surchandra Singh, who was also present on the occasion, assured that whatever help needed will be extended in order to check the progress of the construction work being carried out in the school premise of Kakching Higher Secondary School. He also appealed to the minister to build a hostel at Kakching as it is one of the main centres in the southern part of the state.
Director Education (S) Th Kirankumar urged the principal and teachers to take initiative in providing better education and attract more students.
The function was also attended by officials of the Education Department Engineering Wing, principal, teachers and students of the school.
